MAHARAHARA WEST.

■ -♦ Last Friday a plain and fancy dress ball was held in connection with our winter dancing classes. As we expected a number of guests, Mr Barnett kindly lent his shed for the occasion, and we were not disappointed, for visitors from our neighbouring towns and districts arrived in such large numbers that we found Mr Barnett's large woolshed a shade too small. However, the floor being in splendid order, dancing weat with great spirit, the scene looking very effective as the ghosts glided about in the dim half-light, scaring school girls out of their wits; ared-cross nurse aiding a broken-down beggar man, while at one end of the room an animated discussion was beiug carried on between two clowns, greatly to the amusement of all. Several of our local singers favored us with songs in the latter part of the evening, Mrs Nelson and Mrs McCormick, and Messrs Gilbert and Hutchins receiving encores for items rendered. Messrs Prifcchard and Hutchins kindly acted as M'g.C, Mr Pritchard performing wonderful execution with his crutch and Mr Hutchins with his bag of beans. The ladies kindly provided the supper, The guests pronouncing it to be firstrate. The committee wish to tender their hearty thanks to Mrs Barnett for the kind ly manner in ivhieh she lent her rooms and for , : the hospitality extended to the visitors coming from a distance and Mr Barnett for the use of his shed.
