MATAMAU MEMOS

♦- [ Christmas and New Year holidays passed very quietly here. During Christmas the weather was splendid. New Year's day was quite the reverse, being as cold and stormy as any day in mid- winter. A look at the ranges with their fresh coating of snow reminded one forcibly of a New Year's Day in the Old Country. Shearing is finished, the clip on the whole has been very satisfactory. On most farms haymaking is proving a slow process this season, although some|managed to catch the few 'fine days' at Christmas and got their hay all in without a shower. A somewhat serious accident occurred here yesterday morning. While Mr Todd, was taking his milk to the creamery his horse, a young one, bolted. Though unable to pull him up Mr Todd managed to keep him in the middle of the road, until taking the sharp turn into the creamery the cart capsized. Falling amongst the milk cans Mr Todd was picked up bleeding profusely from an ugly wound in the back of the head. He was taken to Mr Lightly's and medical aid was immediately summoned. The doctor quickly arrived and dressed the wound, which necessitated half-a-dozen stitches. The patient is weak through loss of blood, but no bad results are anticipated.— Own correspondent.
