With a view to expediting oomnmaicatioDS between telephone-exchange* subscribers, and to approach as nearly . as possible the system in operation at - the larger centres, it has been decided to dispense with answering rings from the Ist April, 1903, next. On and after the above date, therefore, subscribers are requested to strictly observe the following procedure :— ' Ring up the central office, unhook receiver at-ence, and await verbal reply from the attendant. Having been informed that they are connected, ring ap, unhook the receiver, and await a verbal - response from correspondent. Should subscribers, after a reasonable interval, fail to receive a reply from the central office .or rhe required subscriber, they are requested to replace the receiver and give a second ring, talcing care in every instance to' be prepared for a verbal reply.
