DESTRUCTION OF A MASONIC LODGEROOM.

BLOCK QF BUILDINGS BUBNED AT THE BLUFF.

Per Press. Association. Lyttelton, This Bay. Early this morning the Masonic Lodge, Canterbury Kilwinning, was gutted. A meeting was held last night, and it is supposed sawdust spittoons ignited. The loss is £1000. The building was insured, for £300 m the Alliance. Bluff, This day. A disastrous fire occurred at the Bluff at 1.30 aan. this morning, by which Boconnoc House (the property of Andrew Scott, and occupied by a man named Molntyre as a boarding-house), Moffiat's chemist's shop, Price and Bulleid's drapery shop, the Club Hotel (tenant C. Sutherland), the Tehroa Dairy Supply Co.'s shop, Huddart Parker's office, and Hutton's billiard | room were entirely destroyed, whilst the top floor of the Bank of New Zealand was | gutted. The, buildings burnt were situated m the centre of Gore street, comprise the finest block m the town. The fire burnt furiously, aheavy southwest gale whioh was blowing greatly hampering the efforts of the brigade. Practically nothing was saved by any of the tenants, the fire sweeping through the block with startling rapidity.
