A Wonderful Instrument. 1 ! A Hoin§i:pape'rj states' that a remarkable instrument was exhibited at the Post Office jubilee conversazione. It is called the ieiectro-phonoscope^andis tiio jqint invention.' ' of 'Professor ' Hiignesj 1 F.R.S., and Mr W. H. Preece, •F.R.S., the work having been carried out by Mr Stroh and Mr Martin Roberts, of the Post Office. It is claimed by, the inventors,, that ■the elecii'b-phbriosdope solves the question of " visual telegraphy " (if such a phrase may. bo employed) The sender of a message from a ; distant station appears in person before his correspondent, and, with, a telephone, it is possible not' only to speak to him, but also to see him and to watch tho expression of his features. Tho instrument is a perfect complement to the tolephone and will illustrate what telegraphy is likely to bo in 1990.
