ST. FAIRY TRIUMPHS
CAULFIELD CUP WIN JOCKEY'S GREAT RECORD MELBOURNE, Oct. 21. The Victorian champion jockey, A. Breasley, won his fourth successive Caulfield Cup yesterday on the favourite St. Fairy, but only because two other jockeys, R. Heather, who was suspended, and D. Munro, who was injured, were unable to accept the mount. Breasley rode St. Fairy In the finest possible style. He was helped by St. Fairy's stablemate Huntingdale, who raced to the front early, spread out the big field and gave St. Fairy a perfect run fourth or fifth all the way to the turn. Breasley kept St. Fairy waiting on the rails in the last two furlongs until an opening occurred, and when it came half a furlong from home shot the horse through to a convincing victory. The second favourite, Silver Link, followed St. Fairy throughout the greater part of the race, but was unable to respond when the pressure was applied. The second and third horses, Rainbird and Punctilia, came with belated runs to gain places. Duntroon was fourth, earning a prize of £250. Royal Flight finished twentieth and High Play Inst. High Play ran with the skin practically stripped from one of his hind legs. He fell down in the float while being transported to the course. St. Fairy will start In the Melbourne Cup. He is owned by Mr. O. R. Porter, who also has Lawrence, favourite for the cup. The attendance was a record for cup day. The official figures were 90,200, compared with the previous best of 86,000.
