LEAGUE CODE
GAME IN SCHOOLS
ENCOURAGEMENT NEEDED
"School football in New Zealand is at sixes and sevens, and there is need for uniformity about weights and ages, said Mr. L. Rout, when a deputation from the Schoolboys' Control Board waited upon the Board of Control of the Auckland Rugby League last evening and presented a report on the recent tour m the South of the Auckland League schoolboys. Mr. Rout pointed out that when the boys left the schoolboy ranks and went to secondary school no provision was made for them. The Schoolboys' Board asked the League to provide a grade to take care of those boys. The Junior Control Board, it was stated, was in agreement with the proposal. They wanted to cater for boys up to 16 years m the secondary schools, with a weight limit of Bst 91b. The Junior Control Board could then carry on. At present there was a big gap and it should be filled. Mr. M. Wetherill said that at present there was a gap between schoolboy football and the seventh grade. It was suggested that there should be a New Zealand School Control Board. On the suggestion of the chairman of the Board of Control. Mr. J. W. Watson, further discussion on the matter was deferred. It was reported that over £150 had been received for the Asher testimonial match, and that further amounts were expected. The Roope Rooster semi-finals will be played on Saturday, the draw being:— City v. Richmond. Carlaw Park No. 1, 1.45, Mr. O'Shannessey; North Shore v. Mount Albert, Carlaw Park No. 1. 3.0, Mr. J. Hawkes. Phelan Shield.—Point Chevalier v. Otahuhu, Carlaw Park No. 2, 1.45, Mr. S. Billman; Ponsonby v. Marist, Carlaw Park No. 2, 3.0, Mr. K. D. Mclvor.
