ROWING, SEASON

MEMBERS BACK FROM OVERSEAS AUCKLAND CLUB.—The seventy-sixth report and balance sheet of the Auckland Rowing Club, to be presented at the annual general meeting to-morrow night, records a satisfactory season under most adverse conditions. Although the active membership list was reduced to 17 members, they retained the old club spirit by keeping the equipment In flrst-rate condition. Although the plant received heavy wear during the season, all through the winter members have ( worked on the boats, which are in capital order for the return of members from active service. The j committee have been very fortunate in securing new oars and, with repairs to old ones, should have sufficient stock for the coming season. Owing to the filling in of Mechanics Bay it is impossible to launch the boats at low tide, and the incoming committee is faced with the difficulty of arranging for a new site or accommodation as early as possible. The final balance of £42, which includes £3o for the parcels fund, can, under the circumstances, be considered satisfactory. WAITEMATA CLUB. —The Waitemata Boating Club's annual meeting will be held in the Boat house on Monday, September 30. The activities last season were somewhat less than in the previous years owing to the late start because of the extensive repairs to the clubhouse sheds. The trial racing programme was reduced by interclub and regatta races. J _ The new members just about balanced tne losses caused by members called up for military service. Now the war is over and so many members have returned from overseas the outlook for the coming season is much brighter. The club sustained two big losses by the deaths ef Messrs. W. J. Evers and P. McCullough. The balance sheet shows a profit of £13 14/7.

The club was represented at the four regattas and in all inter-club races, and while no wins were recorded, the young crews gained placings and showed much promise. The experience should stand them this coming season.
