For Marist, White, at eighths, played a splendid game, and there was merit in his try. Hale, halfback, has a lot of promise. McLeod, Davidson and Lyall played well among the forwards. . Phelan Shield Game.—As the result of its defeat by Point Chevalier, Newton was eliminated from the Phelan Shield competition. The match was keen enough, but neither side revealed polish, the forwards lacking initiative and the backs handling perfunctorily. Isewton extended its opponents in the early ■ stages, but was unable to show any combination after half-time. Belsham and Woolley were occasionally prominent among the losers, while Anderson, Smythe and Harford were the best of the Point backs. (Rugby, Soccer and other sporting items appear on Page Three.>
