RHODES TRUSTEES

CONDITIONS FOR THIS YEAR

PA-: , WELLINGTON, Monday. 'two special Rhodes Scholarships will be awarded in New Zealand before the end of the present year. Advice of this has been received by the secretary of the New Zealand Selection Committee. • Applications for these scholarships will be- accepted only from those who have performed at least one full year of mobilised defence service or such other special service as may be approved by -the New Zealand committee and by the trustees. Although it is probable that under the New Zealand conditions most of the applicants will be graduates, the trustees are prepared to accept candidates with shorter university experience down to an absolute minimum of one year. Candidates mus. also have been within the age limits of 19 and 25 at some points of time 'in the period from September 1, 1939 to October 31, 1945. In other respects, the usual pre-war conditions will apply, consideration being given in order of academic attainments, mafdy qualities, moral force and physicH vigour. In order that the awards may be made within the required time, applications must reach registrars university colleges in New Zealand not later than October 31. In order that men in the Services may have the best possible opportunity of applying wherever they may be, directors of defence educational services have sent special orders to all''units of the Services.
