BIRKENHEAD REQUEST

"When does the Housing Department propose to proceed wrtn tne erection of State houses in Birkenhead?" was the text of a question directed to the Minister of works, Mr. Semple, by Mr. H. T Morton (Nat., Waitemata), in the House of Representatives yesterday. In a note to his question, Mr. Morton stated that not one State rental house had ever been built in Birkenhead. Although the concrete foundations were laid for 12 State houses last November, the' work was abandoned last Christmas and had not been restarted.
