CABBAGE, CARROTS CHEAP At the City Markets to-day there was a fair demand for hothouse tomatoes and a keen demand for New Zealand good quality grapefruit. Chinese gooseberries and passion fruit wort .selling at about, last week's rates. Heavy supplies of carrots and cabbage sold at very low prices. Cauliflower in good supply brought, recent rates. A good demand for rhubarb and celery was evinced. Flowers were in short supply, with a keen inquiry and high prices. Quotations: — Vegetables.—Beet, 3/ to 7/ dozen; cooking celery, . 1/ to 2/ bundle; dessert celery, 2/6 to 5/ bundle; carrots, 3/ to 5/6 bag; cauliflowers. 5/ to 16/ sack; cabbages, 1/ to 5/fi sack: kumaras. 26/3 cwt; leeks, 1/ to 1/5 bundle; lettuce. 5' to 23/ care; marrows, 3,6 to 5/6 sack; citron melons, 14' to 18/ cwt; onions, 3/ to 8/6 bag; potatoes. Southern, 12/ to 14/6 cwt; pumpkins, choice Trlumble. 12/ to 17/6 cwt; medium and mixed lines, 2/6 to 9/ sack; parsnips, 21.3 cwt; radish, 1/ to 2/6 dozen; rhubarb, 8/ to 15/ dozen: spinach, 9/ to 14/ case; spring onions, 1/ to 2/6 bundle; swedes. 3/ to 4/ bag; turnips, 6/ to 9/- case; Brussels sprouts, lOd to 1/4 lb. Fruit.—Tomatoes: Hothouse, 1/ to 2/8 lb. Tree tomatoes: New Black, 10/ to 17/; yellow, 9/ to 12/6; N.Z.. 6/ to 8/. Marmalade oranges: 12/ to 17/. Lemons: Meyer, half case, 9/2. Grapes: Gros Colman, 3/4 to 7/ lb. Chinese gooseberries: 20/. Passion fruit*. 9/ to 27/ case. Poultry.—The supply was heavy and the demand keen. Prices paid remained unchanged for most lines, with young drakes and turkeys in good demand. Selling, rates wsre:—Cockerels: Heavybreeds, prime. 10/ to 12/ each; not prime, 5/ to 6 ; light breeds, prime, 6/ to 7<6; not prime. 4/ to s'. Pat hens: Heavy breeds, 7/ to 8/; light brjecls. 4/ to 5/. Laying hens: Heavy breeds, 8' to 10,; light breeds, 6/ to 7/. Pullets: Heavy breeds, best, 7/ to 9/; smaller. 4/ upwards: light breeds, best, 6/ to 8 ; smaller, 3' upwards. Drakes: Youn?. prime, 6/ to 7/: smaller, 3/ upwards. Ducks: Young. 4/ to 6': old, 2 6 to 3/. Geese: „->,- Turkevst Hens. 10' to 12/: gobblers. 15/ to £1. • Cockerel chicks: Heavy breeds, Id each, light ' breeds unsaleable.
