LADIES' HOCKEY

COUNTRY WEEK TOURNEY The conclusion ol the second day's play in the women's Country Week hockey tournament at Melville Park yesterday resulted in Auckland and Whangarei A being the only teams to score two wins. Keen and interesting hockey was again featured, the standard of play in most of the games being especially good. In the A section. Whangarei A proved too strong for Waikato B. winning by 9 goals to 1. Waikato played gamely, but Whangarei had too much speed and combination. Misses Cotten (3). Rasmussen (3), Attwood, Fraser and Jarvle scored for the winners, while Miss Rickitt goaled for Waikato. Auckland again gave full proof of its strength by scoring an easy win by 8 goals to nil over Whangarei B. Miss Miller played soundly for Auckland and collected five goals. Miss Robinson also scored two and Miss Bryan one. A fast, hard-hitting game saw Waikato A draw with Rodney. Both teams attacked vigorously in turn, but they both lacked the polish necessary when in the circle. Territorially. Rodney had slightly the bet'er of matters. Misses S. Symburn and J3. Stevens were the outstanding Waikato players, while Misses D. Jones, R. Tull and E. Lawrie were prominent in the Rodney~side. Northern Wairoa defeated Waipa by 2 goals to nil after a keenlycontested match. Wairoa's superior positional play was the deciding factor. Scorers were Misses Groome and Wickham. The tournament is being continued to-day and will be concluded to-morrow when the section winners will play-off for the Provincial Cup.
