FURTHER CUT URGED
HOURS OP BROADCASTING PALMERSTON ,N., Monday. Strong comment on the action of the Government in failing to reduce broadcasting hours further was voiced at a meeting of the ManawatuOroua Power Board when a letter received from the Minister of Supply, Mr. Sullivan, explained that the total reduction now amounted_ to 15 per cent. The Minister intimated that if all other users of electricity made a similar reduction it would make a big'difference to the power. The chairman, Mr. J. Boyce, said the authorities were classing broadcasting as of the same importance to the country as primary and secondary industries. The cows would soon be coming in and. it looked as if the dairy farmers, already short of labour, would be faced with a shortage of electricity. He considered the power boards should make a strong protest. A resolution was carried asking the Government to cut broadcasting during the hours from 8 a.m. to noon and from 4to 6 p.m. A remit asking the Government to further reduce the hours of* broadcasting is to be sent to the power boards' conference.
