MILITARY HOSPITAL
PROPOSED USB AS SCHOOL
O.C. WHANGAREI, Thursday. To determine the possible utilisation of the 150-bed military emergency hospital at Kaikohe for educational purposes, a sub-com-mittee comprising seven members and officers of the Auckland Education Board made a close examination of the building yesterday. Subsequently northern ward members emphasised that the manual and technical aspects of education, as well as the agricultural side, should be considered.
The board's architect, who was with the party, will report on structural needs in the event of the unused hospital being converted for educational purposes. The chairman, Mr. G. K. Hamilton, said the Education Department had informed the board that the buildings probably would be no longer required for hospital purposes. If the sub-committee's report was adopted, it would be circulated to Northland district high school committees, which would be summoned to a conference.
