FOR THE WATERSIDE WORKER
Thank you for publishing my letter in full. After reading your leader it is quite pleasant that you realise the position deserves consideration. The other people you mention are all essential workers, but the majority are all 40-hour-week men, even if they have to work on Sunday. As I said in my first letter, the watersiders are still working on Sundays. My contention is that essential work only should be worked on Sundays, and the men are still doing that. But the thin end of the wedge is slowly being driven in, and the conditions our men have fought for are slowly being smashed by the big shipowners, who would like the men to work under the same conditions that existed years ago. As for the doctors. may I suggest that you develop an apparent attack of appendicitis next Saturday afternoon and see if you can secure a doctor till Monday morning. WATERSIDE WORKER'S WIFE.
