WORKERS IN HOTELS
NEW DOMINION AWARDS
RA - DUNEDIN, Friday. The Arbitration Court has released its decisions in respect of the New Zealand licensed hotel and private botel employees' awards. Wages provisions in the Licensed Hotel Workers' Award are retrospective to February 12 last for some increases and to April 1 for others.
™ Fo £ the Period February 12 to March 31, 1945, the minimum male weekly rates have in general been increased by 5/3 a week, but in some cases, such as third and fourth cooks, porters, general hands, pantrymen, laundrymen and other male domestics, the increase ranges from 7/6 to 10/ a week. Similarly during tne same period the rates for female workers have been increased by 2/6 a ek, , exce Pt in the case of barmaids, where the increase is 5/3 a week.
From April 1 last all minimum weekly rates are further increased by an additional 4/9 a week in the case of males and 7/6 a week in the case of females. This makes the total increase on the previous minimum rates of not less than 10/ a week for both male and female workers. Where board is not provided for any worker, such worker is to receive an additional £1 a week and where lodging is not provided an additional 10/ a week.
..The new wage rates are subject to ™ e two cost of living bonuses of the t-jourt. The hours of work remain the same, namely, 40 a week, to be worked on five and a half days each week, but where practicable the week's work shall be performed within five days of the week.
Alterations similar to those in the New Zealand Licensed Hotel Workers Award are contained in the New Zealand Private Hotel Employees' Award. .
