IMPROVEMENT LIKELY
RUGBY LEAGUE TEAMS POINT CHEVALIER AND NEWTON Representatives of the Newton and Point Chevalier Clubs attended a meeting of the board of control of the Auckland Rugby League last evening to answer criticism regarding the playing strength of their senior teams made at a previous meeting of the board. After discussion in committee, the chairman, Mr. J. W. Watson, reported that the board had been informed that the officials of the clubs were working hard, and that there was every prospect of considerable improvement in the standard of play in the near future. The Marist Old Boys' League Club wrote stating that arrangements had been completed for the benefit match for J. Chalmers at Carlaw Park on June 4. and that the teams would be Town, represented by Marist and City, and Country, comprising Manukau and Otahuhu. Advice was received from the West Coast Rugby League that the best possible representative team would be sent to play at Auckland on August 4. It was decided that the curtain-raiser match be between the Otahuhu and Blackball fourth grade teams. On the motion of Mr. Watson it was decided that the charge for admission to representative matches this season should be 1/6, plus 1/ to the grandstand.
