GAS AGAIN FAILS

SATURDAY NIGHT STOPPAGE

BREAKDOWN AT WORKS

Because of a breakdown in the boiler house at the Auckland Gas Company's works the supply of gas failed about 5 o'clock on Saturday evening. Pressure was resumed at 7.30, but was not normal, and in some districts remained weak until 9.0 .p.m. .

The general manager of the company, Mr. R. Worley, said that the breakdown in the boiler house was caused by three boilers going out of action owing to a shortage of Waikato lignite coal. The works were also short of gas-making coal, but every effort would be made to maintain the supply.
