NO EXTRA HOLIDAY
School children will not receive an extra day's holiday for Victory-in-Europe, as requested by the Auckland Education Board. In declining the request, the Minister of Education, Mr. Mason, said that the children had already had one day's holiday for the surrender of German forces in Italy and had presumably taken part in the celebrations at the end of the European war. Schools would therefore open their second term on the original dates.
