MARIS! HOLDS EARLY LEAD AGAINST SHORE

Marist got away to a flying start, settling down immediately to the attack and securing two points for an infringement .by Shore. Anderson took a successful shot at goal, and a few minutes later J. Smith received the ball from D. McWilliams to score an unconverted try. Shore then rallied, and, hooking the ball consistently from the scrums, went down on to Marist's goal line where', from the ruck Graham managed to get over. Rutherford failed to convert. Anderson, who was in good kicking form, took a penalty shot from the half-way mark right out on the boundary line and sent the leather sailing between the posts. North Shore kept up a spirited attack, and following on obstruction Clarke kicked a penalty which, however, was offset by a successful kick by Anderson for a North Shore lapse. D. McWilliams "gold the dummy" nicely to allow White to score and Anderson to add the extra points. A few minutes later Gamble, the Shore full-back, was beaten on the bounce and Smith came through to snap up the ball and score. Marist 17 Shore 5 Shore had the best of the second spell and managed to keep their own goal line intact. Smith got possession to score in good position for Clarke to score. Shore kept up the attack, but were able to make no further impression on the opposition, and the game ended: Marist 17 Shore 10 The teams , were:— Marist: M. Brockliss, J. Smith, 0.
