MI. ALBERT'S SUCCESS IN SPARKLING GAME
Brilliant football was a feature of tlie curtain-raiser in which Mount Albert defeated Richmond, the leading team in the senior competition. The Mount Albert forwards gave their best display so far, and the backs performed well. The game opened up with a brilliant Mount Albert offensive, in which Sumich made a clever opening. The ball travelled to Neary, who raced ahead, gave it on to Wiles, and finally, Padley, outpaced the Richmond defence to score. Cranch converted well, and the scores were: Mount Albert I 5, Richmond 0. i Back came Richmond and Ryan and i Thompson gave support to the backs. Lowther finished off the movement, with a nice try to put Mount Albert two points in the lead. Richmond played attractive football, and the backs, Magill and M. Robertson, strove hard to break the defence. The pace was on, and it was splendid football. Sai.herlev dashed through the Mount Albert defence and good combination saw Furnell, from full-back, race up to support J. Zane, and Potter just missed a try. Fast and open football followed a sweeping offensive by the Mount Albert forwards. Milliken passed to Rosewarne, to Conza, who was pulled down just as Wiles raced in for the final pass. From the resultant scrum Clement passed to Neari' and Milliken gave good sunnort before Pike receivd, and the ex-Auckland Rugby forward barged over for a good try. Cranch missed an easy goal. Mount Albert S Richmond 3 In the last five minutes, Mount Albert showed the better form, and Clement broke away midst excitement, but his kick was forced down. Early in the second half Cranch missed a penaltv goal from an easy angle. Wiles bustled 'Furnell and for a time Mount Albert had the upper hand. Cranch again missed a penalty kick. J. Satherley broke
