TRAINING? CAMPS

Supporting "Facts" in his, if anything, conservative statements of a certain R.N.Z.A.F. Commando camp, may I say that this camp was abandoned as unsuitable for winter Army training. Taken over by the R.N.Z.A.F., thousands have been spent in metalling and roading, in additions, alterations and upkeep. The value of the course was always a doubtful quantity, but in spite of improved war situation and altered role of the R.N.Z.A.F. money is still being poured out in alterations. Meteorological reports show the excessive winter rainfall, ground training being impossible. On the other hand, half-empty, well-appointed Army and Air Force camps are to be found in the Auckland province. Using transport, plus, since its inception, thousands of gallons of precious petrol, trainees are taken some ten miles to throw three grenades. G'CANAL.
