AIR TRAVEL IN N.Z.
BIG FUTURE PREDICTED The view that New Zealand had a great air future was expressed by Mr. J. A. Wilson, Director of Canadian Air Services, when he arrived in Auckland yesterday after a visit to Waitomo Caves. Air travel, he said, was an advantage in any country divided by sea, as changing from trains or cars to ships was obviated. Aviation also eliminated travelling long distances by winding roads through mountain passesReference was made by Mr. Wilson to the possibilities of development of a flying service to the Pacific Islands, which were now being admirably served by the R.N.Z.A.F. transport squadron. Whenuapai, he said, was a very fine aerodrome for overseas commercial use. The South Island aerodromes he had seen were admirably suited to their purpose. Rongotai, Wellington, however, with its lack of surrounding free space, was a problem. Mr. Wilson left by flying boat this morning for Sydney.
