BOARD CONTROL

MENTAL HOSPITALS SUGGESTION TO COMMITTEE P.A. WELLINGTON, this day. A suggestion that mental hospital boards be established, the personnel to consist of members elected by democratic vote similar to the method of election of hospital boards was advanced in evidence given to the Select Parliamentary Committee on Local Body Government to-day by the Women's Services' Guild, Wellington, which directed attention to the large and ever-increasing problem of neurosis, which was awaiting the practical care and sympathy of citizens as a whole. The guild contended that knowledge that mental hospitals were under the control, and subject to the discipline of boards in the same manner and degrees as hospitals, would greatly assist public confidence, and be most helpful in rehabir litating patients back into ordinary civilian life. , . The committee's sittings in Wellington are expected to iast till Monday, and it will hear mipre evidence at Auckland from April 17 to 23, and resume in Wellington on May 29 Two days will be devoted to evidence affecting fire brigades. The committee will deliberate till June S and there will be adjournment of some weeks to enable a report to be prepared.
