LICENSING POLLS

QUESTION OF BOUNDARIES ELECTORAL OFFICER'S VIEWS P.A. WELLINGTON, this day. The Licensing Commission resumed its sittings to-day, Mrs. Logie taking her seat as a member. Mr. L. Irwin, chief electoral officer, said he had been asked to investigate the possibility of fixed electoral boundaries for licensing polls. Regarding the suggested use of local body rolls, he said that five counties did not prepare rolls. Other difficulties made their use impracticable. There was no safe and practicable voting system, applicable to fixed licensing districts without complicating the present procedure, and he recommended that the proposal to establish fixed districts be abandoned.
