SCORCHED EARTH SIGNS

LONDON, April 9. < Reports-of great fires in west Germany may indicate that the Germans, iri fihal desperation, are applying the scorched earth policy by means of which the Russians balked them when, they invaded Russia, reports Reuters correspondent at Supreme Headquarters. On the other hand, the flames may be merely the "funeral pyres of great supply dumps which. < are being destroyed to prevent capture by Allied tanks. .
