THE FIRST TENANTS

ORANGA ESTATE HOMES EASING OF STOVE SCARCITY The first batch of tenants has moved into State houses on the Oranga Estate, Te Papapa, where construction started over 14 months ago. Tenants in occupation comprise about 25 families and about the same number is expected to take possession of other houses in a week or so, when the necessary electric stoves, the scarcity of which has been the chief hold-up, will be installed. With the easing of the stove scarcity it is hoped that the allocation of State houses will now be a smoothly-continuing process. About 440 house units are to be provided on the estate. The area between Rockfield and Waitangi Roads is now filled with houses ready or nearly ready for tenants, and a spurt has been made in the past few weeks in building in the estate between Waitangi and Namata Roads. It is apparent that the timber position has improved. One builder who was forced to suspend operations last May after putting in foundations has now restarted construction.
