The Americans found what amounted to an underground city under the wreckage of the town of Mayen, which was overrun _in General Patton's drive to the Rhine, says the Associated Press correspondent. Civil affairs were administered from a town hall carved from the rock below a Twelfth Century castle. The Third Army found 3500 p :rsons taking refuse there.
