NEW PETROL RACKET
CANCELLED COUPONS RESOLD
DIFFICULT TO DETECT O.C. SYDNEY, Feb. 9. A new petrol racket, in which stolen cancelled coupons are being "treated" and sold on the black market at up to 7/6 for each gallon, has been discovered by the police. Cancelled coupons bear the consumer's name, petrol license number and vehicle number on the back, and are stamped "Cancelled." On the front are the reseller's name and license number. When the tickets are treated these details are erased, and the work is done so expertly that the coupons do not lose any colour. They are distinguished from genuine tickets only by a slight softening of the paper, and onlv an expert can pick the "treated" ticket There is little doubt the work is being done by an expert chemist
