FOR HOSPITAL WORK
UP TO 500 GIRLS REQUIRED
The hope that employers would not appeal, except in the most extreme cases, against the direction of girls to hospital work, was expressed yesterday by the controller of manpower, Mr. H. L. Bockett, whq is at present making a tour of inspection in the Auckland district. Up to 500 girls, he said, were required for hospital staffs in the Auckland district, but this figure represented a very small proportion of the girls employed in industry in the metropolitan area. In the Wellington metropolitan area, said Mr. Bockett, girls in the 21-22 age group had accepted the scheme for the performance of 12 months' hospital work in a good spirit, as they. recognised that the work was of.great priority. It was expected that the same response would be received from Auckland girls.
