TEA DETERIORATES
COMPLAINT BY GROCERS
ABNORMAL STOCK DEMAND "Deterioration in the quality of tea in recent months has been most noticeable and was the subject of discussion at the conference," said Mr. R. M. Barker, secretary of the Auckland Master Grocers' Association, this morning, on his return from the annual conference of the New Zealand Master Grocers' Federation at Nelson. Mr. Barker added that, with their reserve stocks depleted, grocers had found that customers were redeeming their current tea coupons during the first week of a new rationing period. The federation had been informed by the Food Controller that an increased ration was not possible owing to the stock position, so it had asked that retailers, in order to meet the abnormal demand in the first week, be granted supplementary permits to increase stocks.
