FOR CURRENT YEAR
PROGRESS OF PAYMENTS
Up to last-night,-the■'total of municipal and water rates paid in to the city treasury was £767;843. Of this amount £664,843 represents current municipal rates, £100,000 current water rates, and £3000 arrears. It is estimated that a total of £774,800 will be collected from municipal and water rates this financial year, arrears of £3000 being included in this amount. ■The collection of water rates has reached the. estimated £100,000. and arreats in,rates the estimated £3000. Municipal rates still to be collected total ,£6956, V, . The i 0 per. cent penalty has now accrued on all unpaid rates with the exception of a portion -of the Remuera: ;-district, where the. penalty accrtfes on February 16, and portion of ; tfie Tamaki district, where the penalty accrues on February 21. Revenue received' from water-by-meter rates' up to last 'night was £105,622, out of the estimate of. £125,000.-The last quarterly reading of mjiter accounts is now in progress. Within-the next few days the City Council 1 will, , in accordance with practice, forward a fresh demand to the Ratepayers concerned showing the; rates in- arrears, plus the penalty incurred..' In addition, a notice will also .be enclosed intimating that if these obligations are not met within 30 da'ys legal action will be taken. The city treasurer, Mr. H. W., Sonimerville, said this morning that the revenue received from the rates and water accounts augured well for the council and that it was expected that the estimates of all accounts would be reached,by the end of the financial year on March 31.
