WAIHEKE BOAT SERVICE
Why is it that the responsible authorities take no action regarding the boat service to Waiheke? I have travelled between the city and Surfdale on a number of occasions this summer, and on every trip the boat has been dangerously overcrowded. One finds people crowding the saloon, standing in the gangways and sitting on the deck. Is no one responsible for the harbour traffic? If there is, I would suggest to him. or them, that the old plea of wartime conditions does not justify a continuance of overcrowding. JOB. [The Auckland superintendent of mercantile marine, Captain A. Davies, said the complaint could not be sustained, as customs officers regularly checked the number of passengers carried and ensured that this did not exceed the licensed number.—Ed. J
