BUYERS BIDDING FREELY

Business was a little brisker on the Auckland Stock Exchange this morning, buyers generally coming forward with firm quotations for a wide range of stocks. Bids for New Zealand Insurances were ra'sed to £4 9/6, a seller asking £4 11/. Auckland Gas shares were firm on an exdividend basis, the contributincr issue making 2d more tiian the previous sale price last year. Scrip in Cox Brothers, the Meloourne drapery firm, came on the sales list for the first time locallv since January, 1941. Hadfields Steel were in keener demand at 11/ l, against business last November at 10/6. There was no call at 11.45 a.m. owing to the funeral of Mr. John W. Frater, a former chairman of the Exchange.
