AVERAGE VALUES PREVAIL
The yarding of beef was smaller than usual at the Westfield fat stock markets to-day. There was a steady demand for all classes and firm values were realised. The demand was keen and last week's quotations were well maintained. The top price realised today for steers, which were not so heavy as at last week's sale, was £19 17/6, this being £1 10/ lower than the previous week. Extra, choice ox sold to 46/ per 1001b; choice and prime, 40/ to 43-'; secondary and plain, 38/ to 39/; prime young cow and heifer beef, 43/; secondary, 30/ to 36/. Extra heavy prime steers ranged in price from £19 to £19 17/6; heavy, £18 to £18 17/6; lighter, £16 to £17 15/; light, £14 17/6 to £15 17/6; small and unfinished, £11 to £14 15/. Extra heavy prime young cows a.nd heifers, £13 to £13 12,6; heavy, £11 to £12 17/6; lighter. £9 to £10 17/6; light, £7 12/6 to £8 17/6; others, £5 to £7 10/.
