To Make Inquiries

The secretary of the Auckland branch of the New Zealand Educational Institute, Mr. E. B. Hillam, stated this morning that he had been requested by the executive of the institute in Wellington to investigate the matter. Until he had made these inquiries he was not able to comment fully, but his organisation was somewhat concerned that such statements, which it was thought were loosely made, should be circulated.

The comment made by the Associated Chambers that the present educational system did not teach people how to think was entirely wrong, he said. The aim of the new system was to teach the children how to think for themselves, as compared with the old system which merely taught them her to reproduce at a given time wh.ii they had learnt.
