ARAWA CHIEF'S DEATH
A well-known Maori chief and leader of the Arawa confederation of tribes collapsed and died at Owhata, Rotorua, last week. He was Mr. Wiri Karawana, aged 68. He was a prominent figure at all Maori conferences and had been preparing to go to a Maori conference in Wellington. A representative gathering will be attending the tangi at Owhata until Monday, when the funeral will be held. Mr. Karawana is survived by three sons and three daughters.
