WOMAN FINED £30
GAMING HOUSE CHARGE
Charged with using premises in Dominion Road as a common gaming house on Saturday, Elsie Ethel Curran, a shopkeeper, appeared before Mr. J. H. Luxford, S.M., in the Police Court to-day ajid pleaded guilty. Detective-Sergeant Trethewey said that when Detectives W. A. Mahood and Halpin visited her shop on Saturday defendant admitted having accepted bets. Defendant was not in a big way of business and acted as an agent for someone else, whom she would not name. On defendant's behalf Mr. Alex Wilson said she had placed bets to oblige her customers. She had never been in any trouble previously. "This appears to be a new branch of the betting business," said the magistrate in imposing a fine of £30,
