"NO CASHING IN"
SOLDIERS' PETROL
WARNING BY MAGISTRATE
Appearing in the Police Court on summons to-day, Sperry Hancock Higgins was charged with assigning on April 5 last an oil fuel consumer's •license to Claude Levester McQuoid otherwise than by placing it in his custody as his servant or agent. Mr. A. V. Fraer represented defendant, who pleaded guilty. It was explained by Senior-Ser-geant Sparks that, naving returned from active service in the Pacific, Higgins was entitled as of right to 20 gallons of petrol. The consumer's license for this amount was granted on April 5, and, later, Higgins, who met McQuoid in the bar of an hotel, sold McQuoid the license for £3. Mr. Fraer explained that Higgins was disappointed in not obtaining the use of a motor car from a friend and foolishly disposed of his license. "There must be no cashing in on these licenses, which are a privilege extended to all returned men," Mr. Luxford told Higgins. "There may be others who do this sort of thing, but they won't get off as lightly as you, as I intend to impose a fine in your case." fiiggins was fined £6.
