PROTEST OVER BOOK
(P.A.) CHEISTCHURCH, Tuesday.
"The text book that you saw mentioned in the Press this morning is not a text book for primary schools," said the Director of Education, Dr. Beeby,- in an address before members of the Canterbury School Committees' Association to-night. Dr. Beeby's reference was to the recent criticism by the Roman Catholic Bishop of Auckland, Dr. Liston, of Mainwaring's book, "Man and His World."
The matter had been mentioned at an earlier stage of to-night's meeting by the chairman, Mr. J. D. Gray who suggested that it be referred to the executive committee for consideration. No formal motion, how,wa® moved. Mr. Gray said he had not seen the book, but doubtless a copy could be obtained so that members could make themselves conversant with it.
