24-HOUR SERVICE
TAXI ROSTERS IN OPERATION
New taxi rosters — providing schedules of times when various taxis must be available for hire in Devonport, Takapuna, Northcote, Birkenhead and part of Mount Albert— came into operation to-day. Six taxi licensees have been directed to have their cars available at the Marine Parade stand at certain times, providing a continuous 24-hour service in Devonport. In the Birkenhead and Northcote district and in the Mount Albert area two cars will be available within the districts at their addresses between 10 p.m. and 7 a.m. The Mount Albert area is bounded by Gladstone Road, Mount Albert Road, Owairaka Avenue and Oakley Creek. The directions state that the tarings of rostered taxis must be initiated at the stand or the addresses. Drivers of rostered cars are not prohibited from carrying a passenger for admission to a hospital.
