JULY CUSTOMS RETURNS
INCREASES SHOWN All categories in the Customs revenue last month showed increases compared with those of July of last year, according to returns supplied by the Collector of Customs. The increase in the War Expenses Account was £56,837. Sales tax revenue rose by £23,575 to £116,606 and excise on beer by £2598 to £32,582. Customs revenue returns showed an increase of .El 297 over the figure for last Ju1y—£179,927. Figures foi the corresponding categories for the seven months of this year, with those of 1943 in parentheses, are as follows:—War Expenses Account, £2,299,303 (£l,944,774); sales tax, £768,268 (£676,851): beer excise, £274,252 (£222,118); Customs, £1,498,192 (£1.278,810).
