RIDES FOR JENKINS A. Jenkins went south on Monday night with High Ideal, who is engaged in the Brabazon Handicap and the Winter Cup. Jenkins will be on Dozie Boy in the Homeby Steeplechase, and will ride Reorapa in his engagement at the Hunt Club meeting. PROBABLY FINISHED RACING Noble Fox has been sore since the Wellington meeting, where he lamed himself in a schooling mishap. It is unlikely that he will be trained again, and as soon as transport can be obtained he will be turned out on his owner's property in the Waikato. Noble Fox is one of the oldest of Foxbridge's progeny, and won 20 races. TO SETTLE AT AWAPUNI Following his return from the Grand National meeting H. Dulieu intends moving all his active team from New Plymouth to Awapuni, at which centre half the team has been in training for several weeks. Trainers are finding that Awapuni is a valuable centre for a wide coverage of meetings during the period of transport restrictions. LEADING JOCKEY The hunt meeting at Marton on Saturday brought the 1943-44 season to a close in the North Island, and the last meeting of the season will be held at Riccarton on Saturday, when there are four flat events on the programme. Broughton's win on Whackie at Marton made his position secure as the champion jockey for another season. He is seven points ahead of L. J. Clutterbuck and eight ahead of H. N. Wiggins. PARLIAMENTARY WINNER P Burgess intends taking Flahuluk to the Grand National meeting, where his engagements are. in the Winter Cup and the Islington Handicap. The distance of the Winter Cup may be too short ior the Musketoon gelding:, but the mile and a quarter of the Islington Handicap should suit him better. Owners, of - middle distance performers are* in a quandary these days, as there is little for horses of this type between now and the Wellington meeting in October.
