NO IMPROVEMENT
RAILWAY COAL STOCKS POSITION IN NORTH ISLAND (0.C.) WELLINGTON, this day. Railway coal stocks in the North Island show no improvement. The latest returns indicate that during the past three weeks, the North Island stock has fallen by 2995 tons, this position being attributed to the uncertain bar conditions on the west coast. More coal was used by the railways in the North Island in the week ended on Monday last than was received into the depots, the consumption being 7547 tons, and the supplies 6040 tons. The estimated stock held by the railways for the North Island on Monday was 11,551 tons. The South Island stock position on Monday showed a small increase the estimated total of 6684 tons being 567 tons greater than for the previous Monday.
