SIR ARNOLD HODSON
SOLDIER-EXPLORER'S DEATH

The death has occurred in New York of Sir Arnold Hodson, British soldier explorer and statesman.
Born in England, 1881, Sir Arnold went to Central Queensland in 1900 where, in 1902, he joined the Queensland contingent for the South African War. He held posts in Africa till 1914, when he saw service in the European war. Up till 1926 he served in Abyssinia. From 1926 to 1930 he was Governor of the Falkland Islands. In 1930 he took over the Governorship of Sierra Leone and from 1934 to 1941 he was Governor and Commander-in-Chief of the Gold Coast He led several exploring expeditions in Africa and published books on his journeys. . _ .
