SWING IN OPINION
LOCAL election voting P.A.) CHRISTCHURCH, Monday. "The results of the municipal elecions speak eloquently for them;elves," said the Leader of the Oppoition, Mr. Holland, in an address to he annual meeting of the Avon n-anch of the National party this svening. "Of course, the National >artv is not entitled to claim credit or the results, but we cannot be )lamed for taking notice of them, as hey demonstrate a remarkable swing n public opinion which is a developnent that was shown in the general :lection. I have detected unmistakible indications of a change in public pinion, and Saturday's voting strenghened my view that after the next general election the National party vill be called upon to form a Governnent. "We must always remember that t is not just office we are seeking, rhat would indeed be but an empty am. We merely seek office as a neans to an end, and that end is he good we can do in the interests )f the public we seek to serve. We lave two years and a half in which .o complete our preparations, and not i day, not an hoar, must be lost in 3ur urgent task of preparing ourselves for the great opportunity of government."
