GROUND SHORTAGE
COMMENT BY CHAIRMAN
Shortage of playing grounds was brought before the notice of the Board of Control of the Auckland Rugby League at a meeting last evening. The chairman, Mr. J. W. Watson, said that for years the increasing shortage of playing grounds in the different suburbs had been pointed out, and the difficulty was being faced by all codes. Mr. Watson referred to the number of playing grounds lost through being taken over by the Armed Forces. It was, he said, an unfortunate thing for all branches of sport It was decided to offer to send a team to Huntly on Monday, June 5, to play the South Auckland representatives. The South Auckland Rugby Football League, in sending an invitation, said that great interest was being taken in the code in the South Auckland district, and it was considered that the standard of play had improved since last season. The chairman reported that the West Coast Rugby League had suggested that a match between the Auckland and Wast Coast representatives should be played early in July. Rrp. Selectors The following representative selectors were appointed:—Messrs. R. Doble, J. Clark and J. Kirwan. The following transfers were approved:—J. F. Scarlett, Richmond to Manukau seniors; K. Finlayson, Otahuhu to Manukau seniors; R. Morris, Otahuhu to Man ikau seniors; S. Watene, Manukau to Newton seniors; W. Werohia, Newton to Manukau seniors; J. Menns, Mount Albert to North Shore seniors; A. N. Sanderson, Mount Albert to Otahuhu seniors. The following players were registered:—F. Wells, Point Chevalier; T. J. Kerr. Newton; W. Bidcis, Newton; J. J. Fogarty. Otahuhu; M. H. Middleton. Otahuhu; J. W. R. Mitchell. Point Chevalier. Saturday Matches Senior fixtures for next Saturday are:—Otahuhu v.
