FINE ACTION FILM

N.Z. CAMERAMAN IN PACIFIC He wanted action, and he got it. Mr. Stanley J. Wemyss, of the New Zealand Government Film Unit, was sent north to the South Pacific battle area to take pictures which would give civilians some idea of what jungle lighting was really like. Thus, because he photographed fighting, where fighting happened to be, his picture, "Easter Action On Bougainville," now being shown in theatres throughout New Zealand, is an outstanding achievement by a New Zealand cameraman in the field. It should draw attention to the merit of the pictures now being produced by the National Film Unit, which are part of this country's war publicity effort and are hired out without charge.

Mr. Wemyss' adventures ranged from actiions at an R.N.Z.A.F. camp, with a patrol of Fijians, who are under the command of Lieutenant-Colonel Geoffrey Upton, of Auckland, and with an American negro division. He photographed men in the act of being hit, went out on his own, trying to get some shots of "live Japanese," and took part in an action himself, returning to bring up grenades.
