KING'S BIRTHDAY
HOLIDAY THIS YEAR
CONDITIONS OF OBSERVANCE (By Telegraph.—Parliamentary Reporter.) WELLINGTON, this day. Many inquiries are being made as to whether the holiday will be held on the King's Birthday under the Sovereign Birthday Observance Act. The first Monday in June is fixed to be observed as the King's Birthday, which this year is June 5.
A statement issued by the Minister of Labour, Mr. Webb, to-day, announces that, except in those essential undertakings where directions are issued by the controller that work should continue on the King's Birthday, the usual holiday provisions in any Act, award or agreement would be observed. All workers employed on the King's Birthday would be paid the holiday rates prescribed by the relevant Act, award or agreement, subject to any modification or suspension order issued under the Labour Legislation Emergency Regulations.
